Changchun - city of many tram faces
Changchun is one of the last cities with the classic tramway service in China (other cities are Dalian and sure Honkong).
But Chanchung is also the first Chinese city where was open new tramway system (light railway).
Before my trip I found some
web from April 1988 (with monocolour cars) from which
I expected closure last route no. 54.
But in 2000 tramway service was renovated. There were bought new cars and most of the origin cars were renovated. I met Changchun in August 2003.
The route no. 54 is 7 kilometers long. New light rail system has 13 kilometers. Both systems cross each other without rail connection. The line will be lengthen to Jingyuetan park kilometeres 15 from downtown. Near new terminus is big forest (the biggest in China) with ski areal.
All area between city and park is build up as villa area. I saw some constructions of viaduct on this future line. Other line will ended city circiut. Some part of this line will be built as underground.
Original cars from Japan are numbered 201 - 208, original cars form Dalian are numbered 701 - 709.
New cars YK4-600 are numbered 801 - 810. Two cars are without number. The first car (green) is maybe from reko Japan cars from sixties. Second car (blue-white) look as prototype of new cars.
Both cars are on regular service. Some
Chinese web shows some these cars in 2001. The cars are without advertisement and cars 801-810 had originally pantographs.
